Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

MGNP is located in the south western corner of Uganda and is about 10km from Kisoro and is bordered to the south by the republic of Rwanda and to the west it boarders the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The borders of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo meet on top of Mt. Sabinyo and when you reach this park in the Uganda side you can walk up to the viewpoint which takes about 15 minutes and get an overview of the area and an experience of viewing 3 countries from one point. For the last years of the century, it has been more guerrillas than gorillas in this park because of the wars in the region which is why it is important for people in all three of these countries that the park and the animals still survive.

Since it was been densely populated during the mid of the 19th century, there was a possible destruction of now home of the 79 bird species recorded, and 40 mammals who call it home. Mountain gorillas are a big attraction to this national park although golden monkeys are endemic to this area and also a key attraction. Visitors to this park can also do hiking to reach the summit of the mountain where it gives a scenic view of the 3 countries with gorillas.
